Russian forces launched a missile attack on Kyiv overnight on August 20. A series of powerful explosions was heard across the Ukrainian capital. Ukraine’s Air Force warned of ballistic missiles heading toward Kyiv from the north. Media reports also indicated a possible threat from Zircon missiles. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said the capital was under attack by Russian ballistic missiles. According to preliminary reports, strikes were recorded in several districts of the city. Residential and non-residential buildings were damaged, and fires broke out. At least four people were reportedly injured.
The attack is ongoing. Kyiv residents are being urged to remain in shelters until the air raid alert is lifted.
