A scandal has erupted in Slovenia over President Nataša Pirc Musar and her possible ties to Russian intelligence.
At the center of the controversy is the president’s friendship with Russian national Viktoria Krivolutskaya. Their relationship came to light after Pirc Musar’s official car was involved in an accident in July. Krivolutskaya was in the vehicle with the president. The two also reportedly traveled to Russia together several times before the 2022 election.
Krivolutskaya has been linked to former Slovenian intelligence officer Roman Jeglič, who fled to Russia in the 1990s.
A parliamentary security committee has called an emergency meeting and is demanding that Slovenia’s intelligence services report on possible Russian interference and potential threats to national security.
Amid the scandal, the ruling Democratic Party has called for the president to be stripped of access to intelligence reports over suspicions of possible ties to Russian intelligence services.
