On the night of September 4, drones attacked Rosneft’s oil depot in Sochi’s Adler district and a Lukoil facility in the federal territory of Sirius. Fires broke out at both sites, according to ASTRA.

Panoramic images from Yandex Maps dated 2026 show that the facilities’ storage tanks were covered with protective anti-drone nets. However, the structures failed to prevent the strikes.

The attack came shortly after Russian officials claimed that protection had been strengthened at the country’s energy facilities. Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak said Russian oil refineries were supposedly better protected than similar facilities in the UAE. Vladimir Putin also claimed that the level of security at Russia’s refineries was now “completely different.”
