Ukraine is discussing with the European Union the possibility of bringing forward the second tranche of financial assistance from 2027 to 2026 to cover a €27 billion shortfall in its defence budget. Roksolana Pidlasa, head of the Ukrainian Parliament’s Budget Committee, said this on the Ukrainian television channel We-Ukraine.

The EU has approved €90 billion in assistance for Ukraine for 2026–2027, divided into two €45 billion tranches.

According to Pidlasa, the government can cover military salaries and other payments using its own resources by reallocating budget expenditures and drawing on 144 billion hryvnias from the Reserve for the Defence Forces programme.
