Vladimir Putin has ordered Russian forces to refrain from attacking Kyiv for three days. The pause is due to take effect at midnight, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov told the Russian state news agency TASS.
The temporary halt coincides with the planned arrival in the Ukrainian capital of US President Donald Trump’s representatives, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner. Before traveling to Kyiv, they arrived in Moscow carrying a US proposal aimed at ending the war.
Ukraine previously presented Putin with an initiative to suspend aerial attacks and hostilities along the front line. Moscow did not officially respond at the time, while the Russian military continued attacking Ukrainian cities overnight into September 5.
However, the restriction announced by the Kremlin applies exclusively to Kyiv. There has been no announcement of a halt to strikes on other Ukrainian regions or the introduction of a comprehensive ceasefire.
