Ukrainian Defense Minister Yevhenii Khmara held a phone call with his German counterpart, Boris Pistorius. The two officials discussed strengthening Ukraine’s air defenses, funding its military and developing joint weapons production.
Khmara briefed Pistorius on the intensification of Russian air attacks. Jet-powered drones and ballistic missiles currently pose the greatest threat to Ukraine, making the rapid strengthening of defenses against them a key priority.
According to the minister, Ukraine is developing its own defense plan and already implementing asymmetric measures that are producing results. At the same time, continued assistance from international partners remains critical to the country’s resilience.
The ministers also discussed funding Ukraine’s defense needs. The Ukrainian Defense Ministry is auditing the resources and personnel available to the Defense Forces, but external financial support remains essential to ensuring the military is fully equipped.
Particular attention was paid to preparations for next week’s meeting of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group in the Ramstein format.
Another area of cooperation will be closer ties between the Ukrainian and German defense industries. This will include expanding the production of Ukrainian weapons and jointly implementing defense projects.
