Pope Leo XIV expressed hope that visits by representatives of U.S. President Donald Trump to Russia and Ukraine would help revive the diplomatic process and lead to concrete agreements.
The pontiff said his heart was with Ukrainians who have endured years of war, constant air raid alerts and fear. He called for an end to violence and destruction and urged all sides to return to dialogue in pursuit of peace.
“I hope that the efforts made in recent days to resume negotiations will produce concrete results and open the way for diplomacy,” Leo XIV wrote.
The Pope also called on people to pray for reconciliation and the peaceful resolution of conflicts around the world.
