President Volodymyr Zelensky joked during a meeting with Donald Trump’s representatives, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, that their visit had provided Kyiv residents with better protection than Patriot air defense systems.
“You did an even better job today than the Patriot systems did for the people of Kyiv,” Zelensky told the American negotiators.
The president also thanked the visitors and encouraged them to come to Ukraine more often: “Please visit more often, and our people will have a chance to live a little.”
The remarks came during talks in Kyiv, where Witkoff and Kushner arrived after meeting Vladimir Putin in Moscow. The Kremlin had previously announced a temporary pause in Russian strikes on the Ukrainian capital during the diplomatic talks.
