Chinese authorities asked Ukraine to temporarily refrain from striking Vladivostok and nearby areas of Russia’s Far East. Kyodo News reported this, citing informed sources.
The request was linked to the Eastern Economic Forum, which was attended by a Chinese government delegation led by Ding Xuexiang, First Vice Premier of China’s State Council. According to the agency, Beijing sought to ensure the safety of its representatives during their stay in Russia.
Kyodo claims that Ukraine agreed to the request and pledged not to carry out attacks in the Vladivostok area during the forum. Neither Kyiv nor Beijing has officially commented on the reported arrangement.
Earlier, President Volodymyr Zelensky said that a global power had asked Ukraine to suspend strikes in the direction of Vladivostok for a certain period. At the time, he did not specify which country had made the request. The Japanese agency’s report indicates that China may have been behind it.
Vladivostok is located more than 6,500 kilometers from Ukraine and close to the Chinese border. However, the Security Service of Ukraine’s Operation Spiderweb demonstrated that distance no longer guarantees the safety of Russian military facilities: drones used to attack air bases deep inside Russia were secretly transported into the country and launched near their targets.
