Ukrainian MP Anna Skorokhod described the recent talks between the Ukrainian authorities and representatives of the US president as inconclusive. According to her, instead of achieving a breakthrough, the American delegation brought Kyiv tougher proposals than those discussed previously.
Among the new conditions, the MP cited the withdrawal of Ukrainian Defense Forces from Donbas, amendments to the Constitution, and recognition of the occupied territories. However, Skorokhod stressed that she had received this information through unofficial channels and therefore declined to disclose further details.
In her opinion, neither side is prepared to change its position or move toward direct negotiations. Skorokhod described the US representatives’ visit as more of a “public display” than a genuine attempt to reach a compromise.
“Neither our side nor theirs wants to end the war. Neither side does,” the MP said.
As a reminder, Donald Trump’s special envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner arrived in Kyiv after a meeting with Vladimir Putin in Moscow that lasted more than three hours. In the Ukrainian capital, they held three rounds of talks with Volodymyr Zelenskyy and the Ukrainian delegation.
The parties discussed possible terms for ending the war, security guarantees, and the resumption of trilateral negotiations involving Ukraine, the United States, and Russia. Zelenskyy said the US representatives had brought new proposals from Moscow but stressed that the issue of Donbas remained one of the central and most difficult points.
