On the morning of September 9, a Russian drone struck a residential high-rise building in Kyiv. Four people were injured in the attack. Emergency crews quickly extinguished the fire.
Overnight, Russian forces also attacked the Starokozache international border crossing on the Ukrainian-Moldovan border in Odesa Oblast. Two people were killed and three others injured. Rescuers evacuated 16 people from the danger zone, while operations at the checkpoint were temporarily suspended.
Emergency crews are also continuing to deal with the aftermath of Russian strikes in Dnipro, Mykolaiv, Zaporizhzhia, as well as the Kharkiv, Zhytomyr and Kyiv regions.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed his condolences to the families of those killed and said the international community was not responding firmly enough to Russia’s daily attacks.
“Moscow must not enter the winter believing that its missile and drone terror will simply go unpunished. The aggression must be stopped here and now so that it does not spread further,” the president stressed.
Zelenskyy called on Ukraine’s partners to strengthen sanctions pressure on Russia and increase their support for Ukraine.
The previous day, Russia launched a massive combined attack on Ukraine using ballistic, cruise and anti-ship missiles, as well as attack drones. At least two people were killed and ten injured in Kyiv, while rescuers pulled 13 people to safety. Damage to civilian infrastructure was also reported in several other regions.
