Canada will become the first country in the Americas to implement a Drone Deal with Ukraine, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced during his visit to the Canadian province of Alberta.
Together with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, Zelenskyy inspected drones that will be among the first produced under the agreement. Canada is prepared to place large orders, with 30% of the drones manufactured to be transferred to Ukraine.
Zelenskyy stressed that developing and scaling up systems capable of intercepting Russian jet-powered Shahed drones remains a key priority. Ukraine will work on these technologies jointly with its partners and share its combat experience with them.
“We help those who help us. We thank Canada for its genuine partnership,” the president said.
During the visit, Ukraine and Canada also reached agreements worth more than $2 billion in total. Over $1 billion will be allocated to defense assistance, including missiles for Patriot air defense systems, ammunition for F-16 fighter jets, and joint drone production.
The two sides separately discussed protecting Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, preparing for winter, and strengthening the country’s air defenses. Canada also expressed its readiness to contribute its technologies to the European FREYJA anti-ballistic missile program. In addition, 21 Ukrainian pilots are currently undergoing training in Canada.
