The European Commission has approved €6.1 billion that Ukraine can use to purchase air defense systems, missiles, drones, and electronic warfare equipment.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced the decision.
According to her, the approval will also allow Ukraine to acquire equipment and interceptor missiles for Patriot systems to strengthen the protection of its skies against Russian attacks.
The funding will be provided under the EU’s €90 billion Ukraine Support Loan. Part of the money can be used to purchase American-made PAC-3 missiles, including through the NATO-coordinated PURL initiative.
“Together with our Member States and NATO, we will continue to deliver for Ukraine. So that Ukraine prevails. So that it wins the just and lasting peace it deserves,” von der Leyen said.
