Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko has announced a large-scale inspection of all the country’s security forces, including the potential mobilization of reservists.
According to Lukashenko, the inspections must be conducted under conditions as close to combat as possible. The readiness of artillery units, signal troops and the Interior Ministry’s internal troops is currently being assessed. Similar inspections were previously conducted in tank and motorized rifle units.
“The army needs to be shaken up. The time has come. The entire army. Therefore, everyone will be inspected — including through mobilization,” Lukashenko said.
He explained that during the inspection of an artillery brigade, several battalions must deploy “as they would in wartime.” Reservists are being called up according to their military specialties and assigned training missions.
“We are doing everything as it would be done in a war. We are preparing for war so that it does not happen,” Lukashenko said.
According to him, the Belarusian General Staff is analyzing lessons from Russia’s war against Ukraine, as well as the Israeli and US military operation against Iran. Based on this experience, Minsk is determining which approaches should be introduced in the Belarusian armed forces.
Lukashenko also focused on equipping military personnel with modern Belarusian-made communications systems. He claimed that the country can already independently produce equipment ranging from field stations to satellite communications systems, although supplies remain insufficient.
Lukashenko ordered that not only the army but all Belarusian security forces be equipped with modern communications systems over the next year. He also demanded that the inspections be conducted without any “window dressing,” arguing that concealing the actual condition of units could lead to casualties in combat.
