French President Emmanuel Macron’s approval rating has fallen to a record low of 16%. In July, 21% of respondents approved of his performance, according to an Ipsos bva-CESI poll published by Le Figaro.
Macron’s performance is viewed negatively by 81% of respondents, up seven percentage points in a month. Even among supporters of centrist parties, only 53% approve of the president.
Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu’s standing has also deteriorated. His performance is approved by 20% of French citizens, down from 27% in July.
Gérald Darmanin remains the most popular government minister, with an approval rating of 38%. Laurent Nuñez is supported by 25% of respondents, while Jean-Noël Barrot has the backing of 12%. Their ratings remained unchanged over the past month.
Meanwhile, French voters are becoming increasingly critical of potential presidential candidates. Seventy percent said they would not want Jean-Luc Mélenchon to win, compared with 61% for Marine Tondelier, 60% for Gabriel Attal and 57% for Édouard Philippe.
Negative views were also expressed by 52% of respondents toward Raphaël Glucksmann, 53% toward Bruno Retailleau and 52% toward Marine Le Pen.
