Putin claims Ukraine has no ‘antidote’ to Russia’s Geran drones

Russian leader Vladimir Putin claimed that Ukraine currently has no effective countermeasures against Russia’s modern Geran attack drones. He made the remarks on September 25 while speaking to journalists in St. Petersburg.

Putin made the statement while discussing the possibility of a partial ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia. According to him, Kyiv is allegedly interested in a mutual halt to aerial strikes, particularly attacks involving Russian drones.

“Apparently, what they particularly need is an end to strikes by our Geran drones, the modern Gerans, against which, at least for now, they have no countermeasure, no antidote,” Putin said.

The Russian leader linked this to proposals for a ceasefire in several areas. He claimed that Ukraine was prepared to stop striking Russian oil refineries in exchange for a mutual halt to attacks on energy facilities, while also raising the possibility of suspending aerial strikes and reaching arrangements concerning the Black Sea.

Putin further claimed that Russian retaliatory strikes had pushed Kyiv to once again raise the issue of a partial ceasefire. He also accused Ukraine of being the first to launch attacks in all of the areas he mentioned.

“What is this, some kind of game? Are these children’s games?” Putin said.

At the same time, he did not rule out agreements to halt certain types of strikes, saying that the relevant proposals remain “on the table.”
