Inter Milan secured a hard-fought 1–0 victory over Shakhtar Donetsk in the UEFA Champions League on October 21. The match at San Siro was tense and full of drama, with rough fouls, heated confrontations, a red card, and a decisive goal scored while Inter were down to 10 men.

The hosts tried to control the game, but Shakhtar had no intention of sitting back in defense. The Ukrainian side looked for opportunities to launch quick attacks, while the club’s Brazilian players attempted to create danger through their individual skills.

In the 54th minute, Shakhtar winger Alisson Santana produced one of the most spectacular moments of the match. The Brazilian pulled off an impressive rainbow flick, lifting the ball over Inter defender Federico Dimarco. However, the skillful move provoked a far from sporting reaction from his opponents.

Inter forward Marcus Thuram reacted aggressively to Alisson’s move, sparking a confrontation on the pitch. Players from both teams quickly became involved, forcing the referee to intervene and show the French striker a yellow card. (VIDEO OF THE CONFRONTATION)

The tension did not end there. In the 66th minute, Inter defender Alessandro Bastoni received a yellow card for pushing an opponent during a set-piece situation.

Just three minutes later, the Italian defender found himself at the center of another controversial incident. Inside Shakhtar’s penalty area, Bastoni aggressively shoved Oleh Ocheretko. The referee immediately showed him a second yellow card, leaving Inter with just 10 players.

At that point, it appeared that the momentum could shift in Shakhtar’s favor. The Ukrainian side had a numerical advantage for more than 20 minutes and an opportunity to fight for an away victory.

However, despite being a man down, Inter managed to deliver the decisive blow. In the 77th minute, the Milan club capitalized on a defensive mistake by Shakhtar, and Carlos Augusto found the back of the net to make it 1–0.

Conceding the goal left Shakhtar in a difficult position. The Ukrainian side now had to chase an equalizer against an opponent focused on protecting a narrow lead.

During the closing stages, Shakhtar failed to find a way past the Italian defense. Inter held firm with 10 men and preserved their advantage until the final whistle. The match ended 1–0 in Inter’s favor.

Despite the red card and a tense finish, the Milan club collected all three points, while Shakhtar left San Siro empty-handed.

The encounter will be remembered less for its goals than for its physical battles, heated confrontations, and Alisson Santana’s spectacular piece of skill.
