A Russian missile destroyed the apartment of Ukrainian tennis player Dayana Yastremska in Odesa. The athlete published photos of the damaged high-rise building and said it had been hit by a Kalibr cruise missile.
According to Yastremska, the only item to survive inside the destroyed apartment was a Roland Garros towel.
“A piece of world tennis survived a Russian missile. Our home did not,” she wrote, urging the WTA and the International Tennis Federation to view the consequences of the war through Ukrainians’ eyes and reconsider their policy of “neutrality” toward Russian athletes.
Dayana Yastremska is a Ukrainian professional tennis player, a winner of several WTA titles and a 2024 Australian Open semifinalist. She was born in Odesa.
Russia has intensified its missile and drone attacks on the city in recent days. One of the strikes severely damaged a high-rise building near the sea and injured civilians, including a five-month-old baby.
Earlier, another Odesa-born athlete, Olympic silver medalist in karate Anzhelika Terliuga, also showed the aftermath of a Russian attack. She published images of a fire and the damaged building, addressing Russians with the words: “You live in a country that kills civilians and children.”
