The wife of Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, former Olympic figure skating champion Tatiana Navka, has filed a lawsuit against the Council of the European Union. She is seeking to have the sanctions imposed on her lifted and is demanding more than €2 million in compensation, Reuters reports.
Navka has been under EU sanctions since June 2022. The restrictions include an asset freeze and a ban on entering EU countries. Peskov’s children, Elizaveta and Nikolai, were also added to the sanctions list at the time.
In her lawsuit, Navka claims that the grounds for imposing sanctions against her were not properly substantiated. She also argues that the EU failed to demonstrate a sufficient link between her and the objectives pursued by the sanctions.
In addition to seeking the removal of the sanctions, Navka is demanding more than €2 million in compensation from the Council of the EU. The claim covers alleged financial losses, reputational damage, and other non-material damages.
