French President Emmanuel Macron said that Russia views Europe as Ukraine’s “strategic depth,” meaning European countries could also become targets of Russian attacks.
According to Macron, Moscow sees European countries as supporting Ukraine, while Ukrainian forces are striking oil refineries and other sites inside Russia in an effort to make it stop the war.
“Today, we have to be very clear: Russia considers Europe to be Ukraine’s strategic depth,” Macron said.
The French president also noted that Europe has been under attack for years, including in the information sphere through the spread of false information.
According to Macron, these attacks have intensified in recent years, particularly in recent weeks. He also mentioned a serious attack in Germany that ultimately failed.
“Had it succeeded, there would have been deaths on German soil,” the French president stressed.
