The incident occurred on September 19, when Magyar stopped at the festival on his way from Pécs at the invitation of local residents. While he was speaking with festivalgoers, a man approached and splashed a glass of wine on the prime minister. Security guards then escorted the man away.
Magyar said the man was a former supporter of Viktor Orbán. The prime minister responded to the incident with irony, saying he was most upset about the waste of “good Szekszárd wine.”
Szekszárd is one of Hungary’s well-known wine-producing centers. The city’s Harvest Days run from September 17 to 20 and feature wine events, concerts, folk festivities and a traditional parade through the city.
Péter Magyar became Hungary’s prime minister in 2026, succeeding Viktor Orbán after 16 years in power. The new government has already begun reviewing a number of decisions and projects dating back to the Orbán era.
