“It would be a miracle if a world war does not break out” — Vučić

Former Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić has warned of the threat of a new world war amid Europe’s rapid rearmament and a massive increase in military spending.

He made the remarks in an interview with the YouTube channel Ostorozhno: Sobchak.

According to Vučić, European countries are actively expanding their defense industries, opening new weapons factories, and investing enormous sums in arms production, citing the need to protect themselves against Russia.

“If you don’t see how Europe is arming itself, you’re simply pretending not to notice. But why is it arming itself? For what purpose? It’s like in Chekhov’s plays: if a gun is hanging on the wall in the first act, it will go off in the third,” he emphasized.

As an example, Vučić pointed to German defense giant Rheinmetall, whose profits, he claimed, have increased seventeenfold. He also highlighted substantial military investments by Scandinavian countries, including Sweden.

When Ksenia Sobchak asked whether this meant that a world war was approaching, the former Serbian president replied:

“It would be a miracle if it doesn’t break out. I would be the happiest man alive if I were wrong. But I’m afraid I’m not.”
