The Kremlin has responded to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s statement that he is ready to meet Vladimir Putin during the G20 summit in Miami.
Russian presidential spokesperson Dmitry Peskov once again suggested holding the talks in Moscow.
“If he truly wants to meet Putin, Putin has previously said that he can come to Moscow,” Peskov said.
At the same time, he noted that no decision has yet been made on whether Putin will personally attend the G20 summit.
Earlier, Zelenskyy told DW that he was prepared to travel to Miami if the Russian president attended the summit. According to him, direct talks would make sense if they could produce a concrete result.
“Yes, of course. We must come. We must meet, talk and make decisions. It does not matter what I tell him or what he wants to tell me. That is not important. What matters is the result,” Zelenskyy stressed.
The G20 Leaders’ Summit is schedul
ed for December 14–15, 2026. It will be held at Trump National Doral near Miami. Ukraine is not a member of the Group of Twenty, meaning Zelenskyy would need an invitation from the United States as the host country. The dates and venue have been confirmed by the US government.
Putin’s possible attendance also remains uncertain. In early September, US President Donald Trump said he had not yet decided whether to invite him. The Russian president has not attended a G20 summit in person since 2019. Since Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Moscow has been represented at the gatherings by other officials.
