Russia must rely only on its own military, Lavrov said

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said that Moscow must rely exclusively on its own armed forces to protect its national interests.

According to him, the Russian authorities allegedly came to this conclusion because of the position of Western countries regarding commitments on collective security.

Lavrov claims that Moscow had approached its Western partners about agreements, including commitments not to expand NATO, but was told that they were merely political declarations.

“After that, of course, we decided that we should rely only on our own armed forces. The army, the navy, and now the new branches, including unmanned systems forces, as well as many other capabilities we have today,” Lavrov said.
