Ukraine and the United States have developed new proposals that could be used in diplomatic efforts to end the war, Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Heorhii Tykhyi said.
He declined to disclose the details of the new approaches, explaining that diplomacy needs room to work. According to Tykhyi, the viability of the proposed solutions could be assessed once Ukraine, the United States and Russia move toward a trilateral negotiating format.
Tykhyi stressed that the situation has changed significantly since the previous peace plans—first comprising 28 points and later 20—were discussed. At the time, Ukraine succeeded in removing several unacceptable provisions from the proposals.
“Reality has changed since then. It has changed on the battlefield, and it has changed in the skies over Ukraine and Russia. Therefore, in our view, the approaches simply need to be updated,” the Foreign Ministry spokesperson said.
According to him, the need to revise the previous proposals is recognized not only by Kyiv but also by Washington. Ukraine is ready to resume the trilateral format, although the Foreign Ministry believes that a meeting directly between the leaders would be the most effective option.
Further progress in the diplomatic process, however, will depend on Russia’s willingness to participate in negotiations.
“It depends on them whether the diplomatic process will move forward. Ukraine is ready for it,” Tykhyi concluded.
