On September 9, Ukraine’s Special Operations Forces carried out their deepest strike inside Russia since the start of the full-scale war. Deep Strike units targeted the Novy Urengoy and Purovsky gas condensate processing plants.
The facilities are located in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous District, one of Russia’s main oil- and gas-producing regions. Ukrainian drones traveled more than 3,000 kilometers to reach their targets.
Both plants play a major role in Russia’s gas condensate industry. The Novy Urengoy facility has a designed processing capacity of 19.5 million tonnes of raw materials per year, while the Purovsky plant processed 13.4 million tonnes of gas condensate in 2025.
Ukraine’s Special Operations Forces said such missions are aimed at reducing Russia’s economic and industrial capacity to continue its war against Ukraine.
President Volodymyr Zelensky thanked the military for the successful operation.
“Thank you for this precision and long-range capability! It is important that we respond to Russia’s war in a completely just manner and in a way the enemy can truly feel. Every such strike reduces Russia’s ability to delay decisions in favor of diplomacy,” the president said.
