The US side is currently focusing its efforts on ending the war before the start of winter — or, in an optimistic scenario, before November. Journalist Yulia Zabelina reported this following Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner’s visit to Kyiv.
According to her, Vladimir Putin, by contrast, is counting on the winter period and allegedly plans to achieve further objectives in his campaign to seize Donbas by spring.
A trilateral meeting could take place in Europe within the next few weeks, while another round of talks is being considered for October. The parties also discussed new proposals previously mentioned by President Volodymyr Zelensky.
In addition, a phone call with Donald Trump and further discussions during the UN General Assembly are expected.
Zabelina urged people not to downplay the significance of the US envoys’ trip. In her assessment, the visit was never presented as an event capable of producing an immediate diplomatic breakthrough.
At the same time, she described the first working visit to Kyiv by Witkoff and, in particular, Kushner as important.
