Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky held a phone call with U.S. President Donald Trump, with the two leaders agreeing to meet in New York in the near future.
According to Zelensky, they discussed further diplomatic steps and efforts aimed at ending the war.
“We agreed to meet in New York, and this meeting could change a lot. There is diplomatic momentum,” the Ukrainian president said.
Zelensky also thanked Trump for the recent visit of Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner to Kyiv. He said the talks allowed the U.S. side to discuss key issues in detail and see the situation in Ukraine firsthand.
The president stressed that the peace track remains the top priority. Ukraine and the United States are discussing possible de-escalation measures, as well as energy and food security and the protection of civilian lives.
“We are working together with the American team and are ready to take truly serious steps,” Zelensky said.
He also thanked Trump for signing the Lindsey Graham bill and stressed that achieving peace remains a shared goal.
Zelensky and Trump last met in person on July 28, 2026, at the White House in Washington.
During that meeting, the two presidents discussed strengthening Ukraine’s air and missile defenses, including the possibility of obtaining licenses to produce Patriot interceptor missiles, as well as further diplomatic steps. Their agreements also included preparations for a visit to Kyiv by Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, which later took place.
