Canada is ready to join the European FREYJA anti-ballistic missile program and provide Ukraine with additional defense assistance, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said following talks with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney.
According to Zelenskyy, the two leaders discussed a winter support package, the protection of Ukraine’s energy sector, and stronger air defenses. He announced a “significant decision” by Canada and a new air defense aid package.
“There is a major global shortage of such systems and the missiles they require. We are grateful for this support,” Zelenskyy said.
The Ukrainian president also briefed Carney on Russia’s near-constant ballistic missile and drone attacks. Following the talks, the Canadian prime minister confirmed that Canada was ready to contribute its technologies to the FREYJA program. Additional defense supplies are also expected.
The leaders paid particular attention to Ukraine’s financial stability in 2026 and 2027. Canada is ready to help secure the funding needed for Ukraine’s state budget and its Armed Forces.
The two sides also discussed promising joint projects in the defense and economic sectors. In particular, Ukrainian and Canadian teams are working on a so-called Drone Deal. Zelenskyy expects the parties to finalize a comprehensive agreement in the near future.
“To achieve peace, we need to be strong. We need a strong and lasting peace for our country,” the president emphasized.
