Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha has voiced his support for President Volodymyr Zelenskyy following sharp remarks by US President Donald Trump, who called on Ukrainians to elect a new leader.

Ukraine’s top diplomat emphasized that Zelenskyy is leading the country during wartime and that the right to determine Ukraine’s political future belongs exclusively to its citizens.

“President Volodymyr Zelenskyy leads our country in a time of war — a war for independence, freedom, and dignity,” Sybiha stated.

The minister also stressed that the Ukrainian president enjoys support at home and that criticism from abroad does not change who has the right to decide the country’s leadership.

“He has the support of the Ukrainian people, and it is the people who have the right to decide,” the foreign minister emphasized.

According to Sybiha, criticism of Zelenskyy by foreign politicians may actually indicate that the Ukrainian president is effectively defending his country’s interests.

“Statements from abroad only confirm that he is doing his job well. He deserves support,” the minister added.

Earlier, US President Donald Trump sharply criticized Volodymyr Zelenskyy, accusing him of being unwilling to end the war with Russia.

Trump also accused the Ukrainian president of creating problems for the global economy through Ukraine’s strikes on Russian oil refineries.

In addition, the US president openly called for a change in Ukraine’s leadership.

The remarks came amid growing tensions between Kyiv and Washington following the US decision to ease sanctions restrictions on Russian diesel fuel.

Zelenskyy criticized the move, warning that additional revenue from petroleum product sales would enable Russia to continue its war against Ukraine.
