President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has called on the United States to urgently intensify sanctions pressure on Russia and deprive it of the resources needed to continue the war.
“Sanctions must be imposed now. They must be strong. This is a tool the United States has to prevent Russia from financing its war against Ukraine every day,” he said.
Zelenskyy stressed that economic and energy restrictions, as well as sanctions targeting Russia’s production of ballistic missiles and other weapons, must be introduced without delay.
“During a war, it is sometimes better to make an imperfect decision than to do nothing. Decisions on sanctions must be made immediately. What are we waiting for?” Zelenskyy said.
He also urged the US Congress to support Lindsey Graham’s sanctions bill and called on the Trump administration to take further tough measures.
“We need strong decisions from the US administration — personal decisions by President Trump. We very much hope to see them,” Zelenskyy added during a conversation with Fareed Zakaria at the 2026 Yalta European Strategy meeting.
