President Volodymyr Zelensky met with Ukrainian service members ahead of Defenders of Ukraine Day, presenting them with state awards and thanking the Defense Forces for holding the front and carrying out active operations against Russian troops.
According to Zelensky, in the fifth year of Russiaโs full-scale war, the situation on the battlefield looks very different from what Moscow had expected.
โFive years into the full-scale war, Russia on the battlefield looks nothing like it wanted to,โ Zelensky said.
He stressed that this was made possible by the determination of Ukrainian troops, their training and the operations conducted by Ukraineโs Defense and Security Forces.
Zelensky said Ukraine continues to strengthen its capabilities to counter Russia.

Ukrainian forces are carrying out retaliatory strikes, the country is developing new weapons, and the government is working to secure additional support from international partners.
At the same time, the president emphasized that these efforts depend above all on the Ukrainian militaryโs ability to hold the front.
โThe front is strong. The front has not been broken,โ Zelensky said, highlighting the role of Ukrainian corps, brigades and service members who continue fighting for the country.
The president thanked Ukrainian troops for their courage and professionalism and also honored the memory of those who have been killed defending Ukraine.
According to Zelensky, their courage has helped Ukraine withstand Russiaโs full-scale invasion and preserve its statehood.
